XBMC, an open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media that is available for multiple platforms, has been promoted to version 13.1 Beta 2.

Only a few days after the release of the first beta version in the new 13.1 branch of XBMC, the developers have returned with another update, bringing even more changes and fixes.

It seems that even if XBMC 13.0 "Gotham" was a great release, some bugs and problems have managed to get past all the developers and the community. Luckily, a number of fixes have been issued for most of the bugs.

"Now that more people are starting to use XBMC 13.0 codename 'Gotham,' several issues have popped up which thorough testing hadn’t previously revealed. We have already released a 13.1 beta1 which has several fixes and improvements compared to the 13.0 stable release. Since then, our developers have added even more improvements which should resolve a few remaining issues."

"To that end, we are announcing this 13.1 beta 2 release. Do note that this release contain only fixes and no new features. Although we call this a beta release it should be safe to install on top of current 13.0 release as changes are minimal and confirmed working," say the devs in the blog post.

According to the changelog, the resume point of certain PVR items no longer begins stale on playback, a number of problems that occurred when certain TVs queried XBMC’s UPnP server causing it to start running a bunch of add-ons has been fixed, and a crash that happened during exit while airplay was playing has been resolved.

Also, the software now recovers much better after VDPAU crashes, cropping interlaced content using VDPAU is now working properly, FLAC tracks with large embedded images are now playing correctly, a crash that occurred if librtmp wasn’t available has been fixed, a minor memory leak in the PlayMedia builtin function has been corrected, the albumartist use in the song smart playlists is now working fine, and the unique client broadcast UID is now used in the PVR API.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of new features, updates, and changes. You can download XBMC 13.1 Beta 2 right now from Softpedia. It's likely that more development versions will follow soon.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
