Egosoft announces having released the 1.2.1 patch for X3: Terran Conflict, the space sim set to offer the definitive X experience to PC gamers. You can get the game from Steam if you are interested in digital download; in fact, you don't need this patch as the Steam service will automatically update all the game files for you.

Bernd Lehahn, who is the managing director of Egosoft, stated that “As we here at EGOSOFT have done for all of our previous games, we shall continue to improve the game and add content. Work on the next update is already underway, but in the meantime, enjoy X3: Terran Conflict 1.2.1”.

The changes brought by the patch are pretty substantial. Mouse support is extended, allowing the player to use it in external view mode and improving the way the sector view works with this control method. If you lose a target you are tracking, the game now knows to automatically lock on to the nearest enemy, offering you a chance to gain a tactical advantage by gaining a few precious seconds in the middle of a dogfight.

There's also a new mission added that has the player looking for valuable minerals deep in an asteroid field and the sector map is better animated and allows the player to better see where everything is in the sector. Egosoft also states having fixed a host of small bugs which could affect the player in various ways.

X3: Terran Conflict is basically the original X3 with a very long section added to it. You do not need the original game in order to play it.

You can get the update here, in case you have the non Steam version of X3: Terran Conflict, and you can see what the game is about by taking a look at the demo.
