Wayland, a protocol for a compositor to talk to its clients, as well as a C library implementation of that protocol, which can be used as a standalone display server running on Linux kernel modesetting and evdev input devices, an X application, or a Wayland client itself, has reached version 1.2 RC.
Wayland 1.2 RC has been released with a little delay, but the number of improvements and changes have justified it.
Highlights of Wayland 1.2 RC:
• A Stable wayland-server API has been implemented; • A simple CMS plugin that reads a profile from weston.ini and a more advanced plugin that integrates with colord have been added; • The Wayland Input Method Framework from Jan Arne Petersen is now feature complete; • The subsurface protocol extension has been implemented.
A detailed list of changes can be found in the official announcement.
