The first two X-Men movies made more than $700 million at the B.O, so the third part of the comics based saga is hugely and anxiously awaited. The best part is that, as it rarely happens to sequels, all the members of the previous cast have joined the team once more. But some new characters with new mutant powers (and the issues that derive from those powers) have popped up: the Beast and Angel and acclaimed director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil) gave up the project. So with Brett Ratner (Running Scared) at the helm things might turn for the worse and the audience might ran scared from the movie theaters, or not.
Point is, names such as Sir Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry will certainly attract a crowd. Until the movie's Cannes Festival premiere, here are some things that could be found about "The Last Stand".
This is Brett Ratner's first visual effects movie, so the director chose to emphasize on the emotional side of the story. Ratner told darkhorizons.com: "My input really has been just trying to make a more emotional film.A film with more heart and more pathos. I wanted to try and tell a story and act if this is a trilogy and the third in the series.Go in there and not reinvent it, not make it a Brett Ratner film, but stay with the formula that's worked in the past and add more heart. I'm a very emotional guy and I like emotion and I like feeling something in the movie. The audiences care about these characters so much and it was very important to me to stay true to who they were and not try and reinvent it."
Hugh Jackman also declared he really likes his clawed character: "For me as an actor, it's an amazing part. Wolverine in not just the comic book genre, but any kind of action movie, is one of the great parts, I think. I love playing him. It's a challenge. "
Front man of the X-men Team and idol of comics fans, Jackman also seemed pleased with the story: " I think we have the best script to start with of any of the three. And really, that's the long answer of saying it was easy to keep the passion to be there, and I feel blessed to have the role. "
Halle Berry's Storm character is to be seen more and has developed a personality. Now she can even fly.
The acclaimed British actor Ina McKellen said about his character: "I don't actually think my character changes. He's very much who he was before. It's the eternal arguments between two people involved in civil rights, whether they are Malcolm X and Martin Luther King or Magneto and Xavier. That's the theory anyway. So basically that's a story that's been retold, as it's retold from the past. I've constantly been asked what it's like to play a villain, but I've never met an actor who thought of the characters they were playing as a villain. I've never met a villain before. I don't think there's many villains going around in the world, but lots of people doing stupid things. Magneto's got plenty of motives and attitude behind his villainous behavior. You might think he's doing the wrong thing, but you'd probably come out the worst in any argument with Magneto on this particular issue.
