Wyse Technology has announced new versions of its PocketCloud and PocketCloud Pro iOS apps, which allow users to access their PCs or Mac computers or virtual environments remotely from their phone or tablet device.

The new releases enhance performance, and add the ability to multitask, while the non-pro version of PocketCloud is now a free download from the iTunes App Store.

PocketCloud enables complete access to remote Windows or Mac computers over WiFi, 3G, and even 4G connections.

Users can employ their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad to access any file, browse the web, and run applications on their desktops. Flash websites are supported.

According to Wyse, a recent survey showed that over three quarters of PocketCloud customers use the app every week.

Over 21 percent use the app multiple times per day, the developers said.

“We are in the midst of a mobile cloud computing revolution catalyzed by tablets and smartphones,” states Daniel Barreto, GM, Mobile Cloud Business Unit at Wyse.

“Our PocketCloud app has introduced virtualization to a new segment of mobile users who have left behind their desktop PCs, and are now able to leave their laptops at home, as well.”

Utilizing a highly accurate Touch Pointer, custom keyboard with short-cut keys, and enhanced sound support using RDP for different connection types, PocketCloud is perfectly optimized for iOS, Wyse says.

As noted above, version 2.2 (released earlier this month) brings multitasking support, which enables users to “connect to their desktop, send the app to the background to answer a call, and return to PocketCloud retaining the connection to their desktop,” Wyse explains.

Performance under iOS 4.2 is also improved in PocketCloud 2.2.

Wyse has confirmed that its PocketCloud apps have been downloaded on iOS and Android platforms over 550,000 times.

Another find touted by the cloud client computing company is that nearly 30 million “total” computer sessions have been created since the product’s launch.
