As the first Atom-powered mobile thin client from Wyse technology, the Wyse X90cw is designed to provide access to cloud and client virtualization environments. What is interesting about this product is the lack of hard drives, which implies that no server-side data will ever be stored on it, making it highly secure. This device is especially designed as a means to access corporate networks whenever and wherever end-users need it.

"2010 will be a pivotal year in the advancement and deployment of mobile virtualization," Bob O'Donnell, program VP, Clients and Displays at IDC, said. "In particular, more workers are mobile, and more companies are adopting a virtualized environment to enable an anywhere, anytime workforce."

The Wyse X90cw runs the Intel Atom Z520 with a clock of 1.33GHz. The product employs an LED backlit, 11.6-inch WXGA display with a resolution of 1366 x 768. In addition, the mobile client features 2/4GB of flash storage, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, a 4-in-1 card reader, as well as one VGA port 15-pin D-sub for the external monitor and three USB 2.0 ports. Connectivity capabilities include 10/100Base-T Fast Ethernet (RJ-45), integrated wireless 802.11 b/g/n and a factory option for Bluetooth 2.1 +ERD.

"The combination of security and convenience in the Wyse X90cw is unprecedented," Ricardo Antuna, vice president, Product Management, Business Development and Alliances at Wyse Technology, added. "The Wyse X90cw is now the new wave of compact, lightweight, high performance Internet devices that assures the end user experience is as good as or better than a comparable PC, but the security of a virtual client means that it's now more dangerous to misplace a smart phone than it is a computer."

The Wyse X90cw boasts the Windows Embedded Standard and may run for up to eight hours on the power of its six-cell Li-Ion battery (5200mAh). It is priced at $699 and can be seen in detail on its official product page.
