Wyclef Jean has recently signed on to produce and star in a comedy series developed by HBO. The script will be penned by the front man of the Grammy-winning rap trio the Fugees, along with writers Seth Rosenfeld and Danny Hoch (HBO's "Subway Stories: Tales from the Underground"), according to Reuters.
Jean is set to write and produce original music for the HBO comedy series through his Platinum Sound studio.
The Haitian-born musician has previously starred in four episodes of the NBC TV series Third Watch and appeared in independent films such as One Last Thing and Dirty, which is set to debut at next month's AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival.
Jean, the son of a minister, has been influenced by the local Creole and folk traditions he came across with in his childhood.
Wyclef's family moved to Brooklyn when he was 9, and later to New Jersey. By the time he was a teenager, he teamed up with Lauryn Hill and Pras Michael to form the Fugees. The band, famous for their 1996 hit album, The Score, has recently reunited to work on a follow-up album, expected to be released in early 2006.
