One rapper affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan, Christ Bearer (real name Andre Johnson), has been rushed to the hospital after he attempted suicide by cutting off his male organ and then jumping off the balcony of his apartment building.

Johnson, who signed with the Wu-Tang as part of the group Northstar, is now in critical condition at the hospital but not too many details are known about his prognosis. TMZ was the media outlet to break the news, saying that he was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center right after the attempt.

Doctors may try to reattach his organ, the e-zine says. “Our sources say cops were called to an apartment building in North Hollywood at around 1:00 AM and found Christ Bearer – aka Andre Johnson – on the sidewalk critically injured,” it adds.

The fall did not kill the rapper, as he was “screaming incoherently” when his roommates, who were with him when he just got up and slashed at his own body, got to him on the sidewalk. He had already gotten up when they arrived.

They vouch that Johnson’s gesture came without a warning and that he had been behaving normally throughout the morning, when he hung out with them as usual. “They say they were not on ‘any hard drugs that would cause him to do such a thing’,” TMZ adds, but police confirmation is still pending on that.

As part of Northstar, Johnson has known some success. The group is actually a subgroup of the Black Knights of the North Star, signed by RZA and Wu-Tang Records, and has released 3 albums so far. Just yesterday, a new music video from the group, “OOH!” with Rugged Monk , was posted to YouTube – you will find it embedded below.

While the reasons for Johnson’s act remain unknown, as also does his exact condition, it seems that the Wu-Tang Clan is going the extra mile to disassociate themselves from him. Shortly after news of his suicide attempt emerged online, the group posted a statement to the official website, in which, though Johnson is not named directly, he’s being disowned.

“Not affiliated with the Wu-Tang Brand,” reads a text in bold red, next to a photo of Johnson crossed out, also in red. “Parental Advisory : Don’t Believe The HYPE. This Mother[expletive] Ain’t Got [expletive] to do with The WUTANG Brand,” it says.

However, Johnson did collaborate with Wu-Tang and RZA in the past.

[Update, April 17, 2014, later]: As commenter Causaubon points out, the man in the picture on the Wu-Tang Clan website is not Johnson, but Andre Roxx. Wu-Tang is yet to comment on the suicide attempt mentioned above, unless they're making a veiled comment through the statement by disowning Roxx. We'll keep you updated on this.
