Christ Bearer explains last month’s apparent suicide attempt, says he was feeling “very lonely”

Last month, rapper Christ Bearer (real name Andre Johnson), part of the group Northstar, affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan, was rushed to the ER after he cut off his male organ and then jumped off the balcony of his second-floor apartment. Doctors have managed to reattach his member, and he is finally speaking out on what drove him to this drastic gesture.

At the time word of his suicide attempt got out in the press, the two male friends who were with him when he cut himself and then jumped off the balcony told the authorities that they had not been taking any hard drugs, which could have explained his gesture.

They also said that he had not been acting weirdly at all, so his gesture took them by surprise as well.

Speaking with TMZ, Christ Bearer explains that, right before he did it, he had been reading a book about monks and vasectomies. He had been having a particularly rough month, having just been released from prison and finding out that he’d been barred from seeing his 2 children. He had a third one on the way, he says.

He was feeling “super alone” and, after smoking some weed and giving the book a bit more thought, he decided to perform a vasectomy on himself right there where he was. He doesn’t say why he jumped off the balcony or whether he was really trying to kill himself; he could have jumped because he was blinded by the pain.

On the upside, the rapper tells the e-zine that doctors have managed to reattach his member and that he has full functionality now, though he might never be able to have children again.

He also proclaims himself “the [expletive]-ing Wu-Tang” when asked how he thinks this incident might impact his future in rap music, a statement with which RZA, the leader of the Clan, might strongly disagree.

Shortly after Christ Bearer’s botched suicide attempt made international headlines, RZA spoke to trade publication XXL about it, calling it a “tragedy” that bespoke a mental illness. He also disassociated himself and the Clan from the whole mess, saying he was not so much an “affiliate” but a rapper from the hood whom he wanted to help out by offering him a record deal a decade ago.

“First of all, I just had seen him recently. He had got out of jail and [was] calling me. […] He was a guy from the hood that we gave a shot. I don’t make music with him nowadays. But the story — what he did — is incredible. That [stuff] sound mythical,” RZA said.

“I thought he was a smarter guy than a guy who would do something crazy like that. But at the same time, he been in jail recently, he’s been in trouble. Maybe he’s mentally unstable. Maybe the mental health system should have took a look at him and said, ‘You know what? We got to hold on to this guy for a little longer.’ Because it’s not any sanity; even if you high, this [stuff] don’t sound sane. This sounds more than high. It sound like mental problems or something that was bothering this man’s mind, and he needed help. It’s sad. I send my respect out to his family,” the rapper added.
