The creative director of Irrational Games and the mastermind behind the upcoming BioShock Infinite, Ken Levine, has shared his thoughts about writing and how making a game is much more different than making a movie.
BioShock 1 impressed through a lot of things, including its top-notch story that kept players connected to the plot throughout the game.
According to the creator of the title and the man behind the upcoming BioShock Infinite one, writing an interactive game is different than writing a movie.
"I think there's lots of different ways to write games," he said on Reddit
. "I have a particular style that doesn't rely heavily on cutscenes. That tends to be super tricky for a lot of writers and a lot of good writers who have applied here didn't make it because of that issue (despite their work being excellent otherwise)."
"The most important thing to remember is that games aren't movies. I've written both and I find games much harder to write for."
Considering just how great BioShock 1 was and how interesting BioShock Infinite
is shaping up, many video game writers should take advice from Levine.
