Developer Stan Miasnikov has recently updated his WritePad for iPad, a great solution for taking notes in your own handwriting with an iPad stylus pen or even your finger.

An advanced notetaker for owners of Apple’s tablet computer, WritePad converts practically any handwriting into computer text.

The technology makes the on-screen soft keyboard obsolete, according to Miasnikov.

Notes created with WritePad can be emailed, tweeted, saved, translated to other languages, even synced with the Dropbox cloud, or exchanged directly between 2 or more iOS devices, Miasnikov explains.

With WritePad users can first of all create and edit text documents using the advanced handwriting recognition engine, but they can also employ the iOS virtual keyboard for text entry in landscape or portrait mode.

Other benefits include inline gestures, spell checker, context analyzer, and shorthand features, as well as the ability to share the content easily, or translate documents to 13 supported languages using Bing Translator.

WritePad 4.5.1 allows users to rest their palm on the iPad screen while writing with either a finger or a stylus.

Other new additions include export of WritePad documents to PDF, improved printing, and graphical enhancements.

The complete changelog, as posted by Stan Miasnikov, can be found below:

What's New in Version 4.5.1

1. The Palm Rest option is added, allowing users to rest their palm on the iPad screen while writing in the full screen handwriting mode. This feature is designed for right and left handed people as long as the palm is rested below the writing.

2. Export to PDF allows users to instantly convert their notes into PDF documents. PDF files can be accessed via iTunes, synchronized with Dropbox, added to the iBooks library, or uploaded to a desktop computer via WiFi.

3. Improved printing capabilities.

4. Improved inking provides better input data, which increases overall recognition quality.

5. New icon, splashscreen, and other visual improvements. FIX in 4.5.1: Facebook Options dialog box is back.

WritePad for iPad is only compatible with Apple’s tablet and requires iOS 4.2 or later.
