A photo of an injured soldier saluting during a military ceremony at his bedside has gone viral.

The touching image portrays Josh Hargis, a soldier in the US 3rd Ranger Battalion, ITV reports. He has just come back from Iraq and he has been awarded the Purple Heart. He also lost four members of his team there.

Hargis' arm was restrained during the event and officers believed that he was unconscious.

“Josh, whom everybody in the room (over 50 people) assumed to be unconscious, began to move his right arm under the blanket in a diligent effort to salute the Commander as is customary during these ceremonies,” his wife, Taylor, describes.

The image was captured just as he was getting ready to receive the medal, in a military hospital.
