Worst Blind Date Ever: Man and Woman Learn They’re Siblings

Sarah Kemp, 42, and George Bentley, 47, registered with a dating website in a bid to find true love. As it usually happens in these cases, after speaking on the phone, via messages and emails, the two decided to meet face to face: and found, to their surprise, that they’re siblings.

They’re not sad, though, that their shot at love has backfired, they say for The Daily Record, because they managed to find each other again, after a 30-year separation.

In fact, when they met, they had lost all hope they could ever meet again, after years and years of trying.

Sarah and George recall being separated at their parent’s divorce. He went to live with the father in London, while she lived with the mom in Edinburgh

The former spouses maintained no contact after the divorce, which meant the two children had very little information to go on when they finally decided to try for a reunion.

To make matters even more complicated, they say for the aforementioned British publication, in the meantime, Sarah had married and changed her last name.

This made it impossible for her brother to track her down – that is, until he met her on the dating website and literally started to woo her.

Nevertheless, as noted above, the two are happy for the coincidence, saying it will allow them to compensate for lost time as brother and sister.

“Can you imagine the surprise, joy and embarrassment we both felt? It was such a crazy thing. To meet your long-lost brother, in a bar, after over 30 years would be something by itself,” Sarah says.

She admits they were lucky to know something was off about the connection they shared the moment they met – and started talking about their childhoods.

“But to meet him in those circumstances – on a date, for crying out loud – really is something else. We obviously had far more in common than first thought,” Sarah adds.

“This was the meeting of a lifetime and we are now planning to see each other as often as possible to catch up on the time spent apart,” George shares.

A spokesperson for a bookie points out that the odds of this happening were of 500 million to 1, pointing that the two are very lucky for this to happen to them.
