Charlize Theron and Sean Penn are probably the next celebrity couple to walk down the aisle, with reports saying he must have already popped the question because she’s been walking around with a very engagement ring-looking bauble on her engagement finger.

The same reports claim that Charlize has never been happier in her life. In fact, she’s so happy that she’s changed her stance completely on marriage, an institution she had lost all faith in since the tragedy in her parents’ life, when her mother fatally shot her abusive dad in self-defense.

Sean Penn is the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with, insiders close to the couple are telling the tabs. However, Charlize’s friends are worried that she might be stepping into a trap like her mother, that she’d find herself in an abusive marriage before she knows it.

It’s no secret that Penn has a highly flammable temper, which can go off without a warning sign. As the National Enquirer puts it, he’s got the track record to prove it too, like his 60-day sentence for repeatedly punching a movie extra on the set of “Colors” or his attack on ex-wife Madonna. He hit her in the head with a baseball bat but she eventually dropped the charges against him.

If that’s not enough evidence for Charlize, she could also look at his past, troubled relationship with the paparazzi for clues. Yes, they can be very annoying when they’re trying to prompt a reaction from celebrities by saying mean or offensive things to them, but Sean has punched and kicked more than a fair share, not to mention how much equipment he’s destroyed in his rages.

In 2012, the actor admitted to the obvious, saying, “I don’t control my temper well,” and Charlize’s friends fear that she might become his next punching bag. “They’re urging her to think twice before finally heading down the aisle with Sean,” an insider tells the aforementioned tabloid.

If the other reports making the rounds are any indication, it might be already too late for that because, as noted above, Charlize is absolutely and irremediably head over heels in love, and she’s no longer listening to friends on anything they have to say on the topic.

Charlize and Sean were best friends for years before they became romantically involved. She talked about the romance for the first time in May, with Esquire magazine, saying it wasn’t planned: she wasn’t looking to go back to dating.

“If you just let it happen, it will happen. When you least expect it. It was nice to be single and now it’s nice to be not single,” she said.
