Worlds of Magic, a turn-based strategy game that has just hit Steam Early Access, is now headed to the PlayStation 4 home console.

The 4X genre (standing for explore, expand, exploit and exterminate) is a genre almost as old as the PC itself, with many great titles garnering love from the gaming community over the years.

One of the defining features of the strategy genre in general has been the extensive use of the mouse for the purposes of navigating the interface, which is why we don't see as many strategy games on consoles.

Granted, some crazy folks tried to bring the genre to consoles, and there are even examples of real-time strategy game makers trying their luck at making the genre work using a controller.

Now it seems that the PlayStation 4 home console will be getting its first proper strategy game, in the form of Worlds of Magic.

Worlds of Magic is a pretty big game, incorporating procedurally generated maps and a ton of turn-based tactical combat, with 8 races to choose from and over 80 different military units, a wealth of different environments, and a unique crafting mechanic that results in around 400 unique spells.

Another tribute to Master of Magic

The game is designed as a spiritual successor to Microprose's 1994 hit Master of Magic, which many people have tried to revive throughout the years, unfortunately without success. Now it seems that we'll be getting another try, with some twists on the original formula.

The PS4 port of Wastelands Interactive's game is being handled by Teyon, a publisher that usually works for Nintendo platforms and is making its PlayStation 4 debut.

The game is already available on Steam Early Access, with a full release scheduled for March 19, and should become available on Sony's latest console during the third quarter of 2015.

You can check out the game in action in the trailer below, and get a more in-depth look at its combat mechanics and spell system in the extensive gameplay video below that.
