Yesterday, WorldMate announced with great pride that it was servicing over one million users on Nokia's S60 platform, and that more than 100,000 new Nokia owners signed up for the service every month. Thus, the company that started paving the way in 2000 states that more travelers than ever are using their mobile phones to manage their travel itineraries.

What WorldMate does is to allow users to access travel information through the free service that is available on Nokia S60 based smartphones. Currently, the company states that its service is preloaded on millions of Nokia E-series handsets, while it will also be available on the new E66 and E71. WorldMate is designed to help business professionals in particular, either on the road or at home, by providing real time information for them.

The real time information that the service offers includes flight alerts (gate changes, delays and cancellations for 175 airlines around the globe), weather service (Weathercaster's audio forecasts, enhanced imagery, and animated satellite maps), along with other contextually relevant tools like flight schedules, clocks, currency converters and more. In other words, the service gives users access to all the information they need in order to prepare for travel.

The company states that WorldMate Live, which is already available on BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices, is currently in development for S60. According to the official line, WorldMate Live for S60 phones is going to be the most significant upgrade to date to the WorldMate service that runs on the Nokia platform.

"The mix of the world's most popular smartphone platform and WorldMate's industry leading travel services has made our relationship with Nokia a resounding success," WorldMate CEO Nadav Gur said. "We are committed to developing best of breed mobile services for Nokia's users, and working together to achieve further success."
