Announced all the way back in January 2010 during CES, the ultra-thin Bookeen Cybook Orizon is finally getting ready to come to market as the eReader has been listed in no less than 17 countries across Europe, just in time for the Holiday shopping season.
Touted as the world's thinnest eReader, the Cybook Orizon was developed by the Parisian eBook specialist
Bookeen and comes as the company's premier e-Book Reader.
While lately the market is flooded with all sort of eReaders that don't bring anything new compared to Amazon's Kindle, the Cybook Orizon is different since it comes with a
multi-touch screen with pinch to zoom support as well as with a thinner chassis that measures only 7.6mm.
As is usually the case with eReaders, the 6-inch screen is of the ePaper variety and supports a resolution of 600x800 pixels, a motion sensor automatically adjusting it to either portrait or landscape mode depending on how the Orizon is held.
Apart from reading, the display can be used for taking notes and highlighting text, a browser being also pre-installed since the Orizon has built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi support.
Furthermore, the WiFi capabilities are accompanied by Bluetooth support, a microSDHC memory card slot, that can take cards up to 8GB in capacity as well as by 2GB of built-in storage memory, Booken stating it can take anywhere in between 1,500 and 2,000 eBooks.
As far as supported file formats are concerned, the Booken eReader is able to display Adobe ePUB/PDF (with or without DRM), TXT and HTML files as well as JPEG, GIF and PNG pictures.
Shipped together with 50 free eBooks and a protective neoprene sleeve, the Cybook Orizon is available right now, the
eReader being listed at £189.99 in the UK.
At this price, the Orizon is a great deal more expensive than the Kindle, the WiFi version being available for £109 while the 3G edition is priced at £149. (via
