Guinness Book record holder had been looking for love since 2009

Finding the perfect partner, your better half, the love of your life is difficult even though, ironically, you now have more means of meeting new people. Finding love was twice as difficult for Sultan Kosen, the world’s tallest man, as attested by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Sultan was married over the weekend but that in itself isn’t what’s striking about his story, as neither is the fact that he’s literally towering over his new wife who, by the way, is actually of above-average height.

What’s striking about Sultan’s story is that he’d been looking for love since 2009. He never made a secret of how badly he wanted to meet someone and get married to start a family and, at the same time, of how difficult it was for him to do so.

As he said at the time, women were scared of him: all they saw was his impressive height (8'3" / 251 cm) and that spooked them before they even got the chance to get to know him.

In this light, his wedding this past weekend, held in his home country, was like a dream come true. It is also confirmation that real love does exist, you just have to keep searching for it and, like this “gentle giant,” never lose hope.

You can see a video of the wedding ceremony embedded below: Sultan’s bride, Merve Dibo, might seem tiny compared to him but she’s actually 5'8" / 175 cm. Obviously, neither chose the other one on the basis of height or weight or anything even remotely similar.

Sultan would have liked to marry someone closer to his height but, once he met Merve, that didn’t matter at all.

“How unfortunate I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. My fiancée is over 1.75 meters tall, but I believe I've found the person for me,” he says, as cited by Metro.

If it sounds familiar, that’s probably because we all have an idea of how our future spouse / partner will look and be like, but hardly ever is reality a match for our preconceived notions. And it’s for the best, most definitely.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
