Javan leopards are currently listed as a critically endangered species. More precisely, some say that there are only 100 such big cats left in the wild, whereas the ones a tad more optimistic maintain that their overall headcount could add up to 250 individuals.

Conservationists in Indonesia have recently set up several camera traps in the Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park.

Luckily for them, some Javan leopards happened to walk right by one of these cameras, and ended up having their picture taken.

Mongabay reports that the leopard featured in the picture above was caught on camera in a rainforest area located fairly close to Jakarta.

“After I set up the camera and I checked the results, and I saw the leopard pictures I was very, very happy,” conservationist Age Kridalaksana later said.

Three other Javan leopards were spotted in the area with the help of camera traps, the same source informs us.
