A man has found what could be the world's oldest message in a bottle on Vancouver Island’s west coast, in Canada.

The large bottle has a label attached to it, and it is signed by one Earl Willard. He has also written a date on the bottle, September 29, 1906.

The 107th anniversary of the voyage of the bottle would be celebrated in less than a week. It was meant to take a three-day trip from San Francisco to Bellingham, Washington over a century ago, but got lost on the way.

"I was just walking along and here's this bottle lying in the sand. [...] I thought it looked pretty neat and I picked it up and it had a message in it," Steve Thurber describes.

The Courtenay, British Columbia resident doesn't want to open the bottle just yet. According to Huffington Post, he is waiting for offers to reveal it in a unique setting. A friend of his has suggested that he go on Jay Leno and open it there.
