News from China says that the world's highest wind farm has recently gone online in the Tibet Autonomous Region's Nagchu prefecture.

For the time being, the wind farm comprises just 5 turbines, whose combined energy generating capacity revolves somewhere around 7.5 megawatts.

However, the people behind this project say that, in the not so distant future, the turbines will be joined by 28 others. When this happens, the farm's output will be one of 49.5 megawatts.

In case anyone was wondering why this wind farm is said to be the highest facility of its kind to have ever been built anywhere in the world, here is the answer: the farm is estimated to sit some 4.7 kilometers (2.92 miles) above sea level.

According to Global Times, Tibet's yearly wind energy reserves amount to a whopping 93 billion kilowatt-hours. Hence, here's hoping that more facilities that harvest this green energy source will soon be built in this part of the world.
