At this year's CES, popular Chinese manufacturer Coolpad has showcased what has been called the “world’s first true Octa-Core” Android tablet.

The Halo comes with a 7-inch HD IPS OGS display and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and draws power from a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Mt6592 processor fitted with 2GB of RAM plus 700 MHz Mali 450-MP4 GPU and backed up 8GB of internal storage.

The tablet was said to be arriving on the market in China later this month and apparently customers didn’t have to wait that long.

Tabletmaniak reports the slate has been launched in the country and has already managed to sell a whopping 50,000 copies in the first 18 seconds. Or 2,778 people grabbed a Coolpad Halo (priced at $312 / €230) tablet in one second. That’s pretty impressive, indeed.

To compare, Xiaomi’s popular low-budget Red Rice smartphone sold a thousand copies in three minutes and eight seconds. That accounts for 532 people grabbing the handheld device in one second.

We really seem to be a species obsessed with tablets.
