It is a wireless communication device with 802.11ac support

The 802.11ac wireless standard is the specification that most, if not all, new Wi-Fi routers and range extenders are built in mind with, and the RTA15 from Amped Wireless is no exception.

One would be tempted to believe that would prevent the newcomers from being anything special. The first two may have been remarkable, but the growth in number took care of that allure.

People would be right to feel this way about the RTA15, but they won't when they learn that the product has another advantage.

Essentially, it has a much longer range than normal routers. In its press release, Amped Wireless even calls it “the industry's first long-range 802.11ac router.”

Curiously, the press release doesn't actually say what that range is. After looking for some insight though, we have found a presumed comparison between it and basic routers.

If a basic router has a range of 3,750 sq. ft (348 sq. meters), the Amped Wireless RxG would have 7,500 sq. ft. (696 sq. meters) and the Wireless RTA 11,250 sq. ft. (1,045 sq. meters).

"By combining our award winning high power technology with the horsepower of 802.11ac, we are able to provide fastest speeds at the greatest distances. This means faster streaming, downloading and web browsing with your Mac or PC laptop or desktop throughout your entire home, backyard or office," said Jason Owen, CEO of Amped Wireless.

"With 802.11ac standard ratifying in 2013, consumers can have a more dynamic wireless network, an Amped Wireless 802.11ac based-network will deliver industry leading coverage with up to three times the speed and range of past solutions."

The newcomer operates at 700 mW dual band, with two 2.4 GHz 700 mW amplifiers and four 5.0 GHz 700 mW, 2-Stage amplifiers, plus four advanced, low noise amplifiers. Multiple devices should easily stream high-quality video through it at the same time.

Sales should start soon, on July 15. Pre-orders are open already, for $189.99 / 147 – €189.99.
