This is the first platform that isn't just an existing one with updated BIOS

We've already seen our share of motherboards that are supposedly going to support next-generation CPUs from Intel or AMD, but there hasn't really been a product release for an Intel 8-Series chipset-powered platform.

Even now there has been no “official” word on them, but ASRock did let something slip.

Its first 8 Series motherboard has passed Windows 8 hardware certification.

Called Z87 Extreme4, it will probably have extensive memory support, a whole bunch of PCI Express ports and, of course, the LGA 1155 socket.

Complete connectivity and I/O is a given as well (USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.).

Sadly, since no announcement has been made, and leaks have been scarce, we can only say for sure that the ASRock Z87 Extreme4 supports Windows 8. The specs will just have to wait.
