Besides the frame of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, the whole care is made from ice

Usually when people think of ice trucks, they imagine vehicles that perform well on ice and not cars made from actual blocks of frozen liquid. There have been a lot of things build from snow, but the Canadian Tire's vehicle is a first as it is made entirely from ice and it is actually drivable.

Canadian Tire's new commercial was meant to turn heads and it managed to do that, successfully, after its latest design is a one-of-a-kind ice pick-up truck. Mixing frozen liquid with the frame of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty, designers built the “ice truck” weighting 1,500lbs (6,800 kilograms), notes Complex Rides.

The vehicle was built for the commercial scheduled to air during the Winter Classic Hockey Game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings on New Year’s. The ice truck is actually drivable and was used for the whole commercial, before melting down.

In order to avoid the melting of the car during the drive, engineers created special fans that provided the necessary airflow in order to remove the hot air and the exhaust fumes.

It was a challenge as the truck frame had to hold incredibly heavy quantities of ice and the engine powering the vehicle had to release little to no heat at all, in order to preserve the truck.

Canadian Tire commissioned a company that specializes in ice sculptures, Ice Culture, to build the first, real, driving Ice Truck. In the attempt of gathering people's attention on the resistance of the Motormaster Eliminator Battery, the engineers designed the ultimate test in the incredibly cold Canadian winter.

The hard-working team wanted to set a new world record by driving the first-of-its-kind ice truck through the streets of Canada. Something that seemed impossible at first became the perfect way to test the company's new product meant to resist even the lowest temperatures.
