Andrews UK have released ‘A Dream of Christmas 3D (Enhanced Version)' on Apple’s iBookstore with true 3D video. However, to experience the additional 3D video, there are some serious requirements on your end.

The story and film focus on a classic Christmas tale where a child dreams of visiting Santa’s toy factory. The company claims to have achieved the world’s first 3D video e-book on Apple iBookstore.

Titles on the iBookstore that contain video and audio are called ‘enhanced’ books, and Paul Andrews’ A Dream of Christmas 3D (Enhanced Version) is just that.

By including formatted video, the book (or app) plays a six-and-a-half minute 3D Film which complements the story of the book.

For that, you will need: iPad (all versions), iPhone 4 (or above), or iPod touch 4th generation (and above), a 3DTV which supports side-by-side encoded video, a Digital AV Adapter cable (sold through the Apple Store) and an HDMI cable.

The book itself goes for $7.99 (or equivalent currencies) in the iBookstore and weighs in at over 400MB. Andrews UK recommends that you download over a WiFi connection.

CEO Paul Andrews said, “We are very pleased to have achieved this milestone. Staying one step ahead of the global game is central to our business model.”

“We have a history of being one of the leaders in digital publishing,” Andrews added. “When the Apple iPad was launched we had in the region of 10% of all global app books for sale on day one. While the marketplace was talking about the latest text-formatting techniques, we were publishing full-colour rich media eBooks.  Now, whilst the latest buzzword is fixed-format – something we have offered since the day retailers allowed it – we’re offering books with 3D content.”

“With our new 3D eBook we hope to show the world what can be done with rich media content, and also aim to delight children all over the globe with this wonderful book and video,” Andrews concluded.
