It is made for ultrabooks and other very slim devices

It took 2.5-inch solid-state drives many months to actually reach beyond 240 GB capacities, but now they come in 1 TB or more, and finally we can say that even mSATA drives have surpassed that threshold.

Samsung has introduced the 840 EVO SSD, which crams 1 TB of storage into the 1.8-inch MSATA form factor.

There will also be 120 GB, 250 GB and 500 GB versions, but the 1 TB drive is the kicker here, especially since it's pretty fast too, at 540 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write.

Then again, performance rises with capacity for SSDs (more chips to write on at once and all that), so that's not as big a shock as the capacity itself.

Obviously, ultrabooks will be the main market for these things, but the Samsung 840 EVO is bound to also wind up in rugged tablets, or anything else with mSATA interfaces.
