The golf cart is the brainchild of Plum Quick Motors, set a new world record earlier this week, on Monday

Let's face it, golf carts aren't exactly the kings and queens of highways. They're rather sluggish, and seeing how their only purpose in life is to carry golfers and their clubs around a course, that's not such a bad thing.

Still, it appears that, thanks to a group of racing enthusiasts, an otherwise perfectly ordinary golf cart can now take pride in being way faster than its siblings. About as fast as cars especially built for speed are, to be more precise.

Setting a new world record

The golf cart in question, pictured next to this article and also featured in the video below, is the brainchild of Plum Quick Motors, a company that specializes in building motors that sluggish cars into freakishly fast ones.

“At Plum Quick Motors, we produce high performance golf cart motors for a wide range of applications including hunting, off road, golfing, cruising and even racing,” the company describes its working agenda.

Having fitted a regular golf cart with such a custom-made motor, these racing enthusiasts managed to turn it into the world's fastest vehicle of this kind, Total Pro Sports informs.

Thus, this past Monday, the Plum Quick Racing Team took the golf cart out for a spin on a racetrack in South Carolina, US, and ended up setting a new world record.

Long story short, the golf cart covered a distance of 0.25 miles (0.4 kilometers) in just 12.24 seconds. When at its fastest, it reached a speed of 118.87 miles per hour (191.12 kilometers per hour). The achievement was documented by Guinness World Records.

It's important to note that, in order to earn its crown as the fastest golf cart ever to go cruising on a proper road and not around a course, the vehicle made by Plum Quick Motors had to keep most of the parts it sported when it came out the manufacturing line.

Thus, the Plum Quick Racing Team maintains that, motor aside, their golf cart still packs 90% of the parts it was born with. If you look carefully, you will notice that it even has a set of golf bags strapped to its back.

So, who set the previous record?

Interestingly enough, it appears that the previous record for the world's fastest golf cart was also set by the Plum Quick Racing Team just last year.

More precisely, it was on October 4, 2013, that the team made a golf cart go as fast as 103.65 miles per hour (166.81 kilometers per hour).
