Information is Beautiful has developed an interesting visualization of the world’s biggest data breaches. Users can check out what incidents had the most impact, and what sectors they affected.

The interactive visualization shows that the biggest breaches so far have affected organizations such as Evernote, Social Living, Yahoo!, Ubisoft, Sony, Apple, Heartland, the US Military, TJ/TJ Maxx, AOL, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and the UK Revenue and Customs.

The data highlights the fact that gaming sites account for the biggest breaches. In addition, it also shows that the healthcare sector is highly problematic, with over 50% of incidents resulting from stolen or lost computers.

Furthermore, it appears that many breaches are a result of accidental publishing. A perfect example is the recent Facebook bug which exposed the details of 6 million people.
