Anton Sitnikov, a producer working on World of Warplanes, says that the upcoming plane-based MMO aims at a bigger impact on the United States market, and that the company will deliver an experience that’s more complex than the one seen in World of Tanks.

He tells VG247 that “it’s important to keep in mind that World of Warplanes is geared toward a completely different target audience. For example, we hope that the game will have great success in North America, where people are more passionate about warplanes than tanks.”

World of Warplanes will allow gamers to choose from a number of aircraft used during World War II and beyond, and then take to the skies to battle fellow gamers and strafe ground targets.

The core structure of the game is similar to that of World Of Tanks, but the development team has faced new development challenges and has introduced new solutions to deal with the increase in difficulty.

Sitnikov says, “the high-velocity 3D combat in World of Warplanes is more complicated than the 2D ground combat in World of Tanks. Either way, though, we look at World of Warplanes as having a potentially very successful title for us.”

Wargaming wants the overall game experience to be as accessible as possible, and the new title will use a free-to-play and microtransaction-driven business model.

World of Warplanes is at the moment in closed beta stage, and the development team is evaluating player performance and working to make sure that all the features are working correctly and are fun in the long term.

A move towards an open beta with an increased number of players will take place during the coming months.

World of Warplanes is set to arrive on the PC later during the year, and Wargaming is also working on a similar title linked to ship combat.
