Video game developer Blizzard announces that its World of Warcraft MMO will get access to a new major patch, labeled 6.0.2, on October 14 and the new content is designed to prepare the game for the coming launch of the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

The studio says that there are adjustments to all the core gameplay mechanics and updates to the skills and abilities that all classes can use.

But the focus of The Iron Tide update for the title is mainly on content which prepares the world of the game for the major changes that will be introduced in the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

Blizzard states in the announcement that “The Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands has turned blood red. Hundreds of strange-looking orcs are violently pouring into Azeroth, killing everything that stands in their path. Nethergarde and Okril’lon have already fallen, and while the Horde and the Alliance moved as quickly as they could to get reinforcements to their people, they are too late. The Iron Horde invasion has begun.”

Gamers will have to go to the game area and try to stop the coming attackers, and after they defeat Iron Horde general Gar’mak Bladetwist, they will report back to their respective alliances the events that they have been part of.

Upper Blackrock is also being revamped in order to offer a five-player experience, and Blizzard adds, “You will face Orebender Gor'ashan, Kyrak, and Commander Tharbek as you begin to take the fight to the enemy and sharpen the skills—and swords—you’ll need to succeed on an unwelcoming alien world.”

Getting ready for Warlords of Draenor

Warlords of Draenor for World of Warcraft will be out on the PC on November 13.

Gamers who buy it will be able to travel to Draenor, the original home of the Orcs, and face a range of new enemies in combat while completing a new suite of story-focused missions.

The MMO is also getting access to an entirely new Garrison feature, which allows guilds to create their own strongholds and customize them in a variety of ways.

Warlords of Draenor also gives gamers a one-time boost which allows them to bring a character up to level 90.

Blizzard has recently announced that it is no longer working on its Titan project, and this might mean that more resources will be re-routed to World of Warcraft in the coming months to support the launch of the expansion.
