New landmarks for Blizzard's MMO

Blizzard's MMO phenomenon World of Warcraft didn't really get the huge numbers in Asian countries until now, but it was only a matter of time until this was going to happen, right? Well, Blizzard has just confirmed that one million concurrent players from China could now be met on the official game servers. These are the highest numbers since the 2005 Chinese release and Blizzard is expecting a constant rise in the future.

And we're sure it will happen. Not only that WoW is probably the best known MMORPG game in the world, it is also the most appreciated at the moment. Having in mind that the Olympic Games in Beijing are getting closer and closer, it is highly possible that some of the spectators coming to China from foreign countries are World of Warcraft players, the numbers could go up for Blizzard: the more people will see others playing the game in Internet cafes, the more they will understand how cool it is and start playing it themselves.

Also, having in mind that the latest WoW expansion, the Wrath of the Lich King, is getting closer to its release date (even though no official date has been announced yet, we all know it is going to hit by the end of the year), it means that the new players to enter Azeroth will already enjoy an expanded gaming experience, which, in the end, will bring even more players for WoW. If we also come to think that things sometimes happen really slow in the gaming world and old habits die hard, Blizzard's MMO will probably be number one for a long time from now on. Which is not bad at all: it actually is a great title. Just ask the one million Chinese people who are playing it right now; they'll tell you their story!
