The subscription numbers for the Blizzard made World of Warcraft have been dropping steadily for some time, reaching a low of 10 million coming from a high of 12, and it seems that the development team has thought about offering more free-to-play content for players in order to reverse the trend.

John Lagrave, who is one of the producers working on World of Warcraft, stated, “We could certainly look at extending the level of the trial, what you can do in the trial in terms of the amount of gold that you can have and all that kind of stuff. There’s a fair amount that you can experience up to level 20, because you really get most of the core systems in by that point.”

The producer believes that Blizzard is not ready at the moment to extend the free-to-play space in World of Warcraft but suggested that this might change in the coming years.
