The world wide economic situation is anything but rosy. So, it's nice to see that videogames, which have been vilified as being addictive and too violent, are helping to create more jobs for those young and ambitious.

It seems that a (probably wealthy) gamer, exasperated by the mediocre raiding experiences he has had in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, has decided to hire someone to act as his “guild director.”

The offer for the job made its way to Craiglist, but unfortunately the service has flagged it for removal at this time. Still, if you're interested in the offer, you might want to snoop around the Internet and see whether the offer pops up somewhere else.

The MMO player who offered the position resides in Santa Barbara, California and was willing to pay if someone displayed skill in attracting new guild recruits, delivering briefings on what happened with the guild in the last few days, keeping an eye out for the various raid stats, the auctioning and banking activities of the guild and the other small things that keep such an organization running smoothly.

The initial pay was not that great but the announcement talked about a bonus scheme that was tied to the performance of the guild. There are quite a lot of people who are doing the same job for free at the moment, so the offer was a real opportunity.

Sure, the posting could have been a delayed April Fools' prank or simply a joke. The initial poster could have reconsidered what he/she was about to do. But as MMOs become bigger and bigger, with more competitive games out and with World of Warcraft continuing to grow and to add players, we aren't really far from a day when nobody would see any shame in accepting a position as “World of Warcraft guild director.” After all, the future is digital and the organizing skills acquired in MMOs are surely also useful in the real world.
