The success of the massively multiplayer online vehicle combat game World of Tanks is indisputable, and it is due in part to developer Wargaming's ongoing efforts to always improve the gaming experience.

After removing all instances of "pay to win" from its game and seeing a surge in competitive play all across the world, the company has dedicated its efforts to delivering a more realistic simulation by greatly enhancing the game's physics engine.

Now, a developer video outlining the new World Of Tanks game modes reveals that players will soon be able to engage in historical battles and to build and protect fortifications which will provide various in-game bonuses, in a game mode that is separate from the global map.

Not only that, but Wargaming has also mentioned that it will implement support for the Oculus Rift in World of Tanks, should the virtual reality headset achieve worldwide sales of more than 5 million, proving that there is a real market for VR experiences in the free-to-play sector.

"If it's big, if it's global, we're going to be there. We are free-to-play, and now even further down the road, we are free-to-win. 75 per cent of our players never pay a penny, and we love those players. For free-to-play, 5 to 10 million is a good user-base. So if Xbox One or Oculus reach those numbers, we're there," chief executive Victor Kislyi said regarding the new technologies.
