The development team at Wargaming announces that it is changing its approach to premium content delivery and payment, introducing a new system to its World of Tanks multiplayer title called free-to-win.

The team is eliminating all microtransaction-based items that offer a player a competitive advantage of any kind, with the community now only able to pay for premium vehicles and customization options.

The team says that the move will make World Of Tanks and its future titles more friendly for those interested in eSports.

Andrei Yarantsau, a publishing vice president at Wargaming, tells Gamasutra that, “Professional sport – and gaming is no exception – is about fair competition. The introduction of our new free-to-win system will really help facilitate the development of World of Tanks as a true eSports discipline.”

The company is preparing to launch World of Warplanes and also works on World of Warships.
