Wargaming announces an upcoming collectible card game based on its World of Tanks property, focused on strategic one-on-one battles between players.

Wargaming is attempting to encroach Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft's territory with a bit less fantasy and a lot more historical action.

Last year, the company released World Of Tanks: Blitz, trying to take on the mobile world with a lightweight version of its massively multiplayer online tank battling game World of Tanks.

Now, the developers are trying their hand at something more traditional to mobile gaming, a trading card game, infused with the same type of dynamic historical action, featuring soldiers and vehicles from different nations.

Players will be able to collect up to 200 different cards, and then battle against other players with a 5 by 3 grid to lay down cards, using tactical positioning in order to outplay opponents. Gamers will be able to unlock and research new battle orders, tanks and other cards, by completing missions and destroying enemy units.

A wide array of equipment and consumables will also be available to players, enhancing their forces' combat effectiveness or offering the chance to modify one's hand of cards.

Another interesting card game is on the horizon

Gamers will be able to create their own unique decks, practice against computer opponents, and then show their skills online, against other human opponents.

The free-to-play game focuses on epic World War 2-era warfare, with various strategic choices to make, with each of the three factions, USA, Germany and the USSR, having its own special arsenal.

World of Tanks: Generals will be made available on PC, tablets and smartphones, sometime later this year. For the time being, Wargaming has opened up sign-ups for the upcoming closed beta, on the game's website.

The game will be playable through web browsers, with no client download required, and gamers who already have a Wargaming account for World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, or World of Warships will be able to also use it for Generals.
