Kyle and Ron, the team at 2D Boy, have announced a new version of their popular puzzler - World of Goo for iOS. The free update finally brings the game up to feature parity with most apps out there by delivering Retina Display support.

Both World of Goo and World of Goo HD have received the update, with 2D Boy noting on their site, "Updated versions of World of Goo and World of Goo HD have just been released on the App Store."

The 2D boys joke (addressing fans of the game, of course), saying the announcement comes way of 'The High Resolution Sign Painter'.

As a result of users applying the update, the game’s graphics will be crisper on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G devices. A change in visuals may be observed on iPads as well.

One of the most ingeniously crafted games ever to reach iOS platforms, World of Goo is a rather big game (80MB) that requires either an iPad, iPhone 3GS or newer, or a 3rd-gen iPod touch or newer.

It must be downloaded over a Wi-Fi connection (not 3G), but existing players can also download the new version through iTunes on their computer and then sync their device to have the new version installed.

Some users have reported crashes or freezing with World of Goo after installing the game, or updates to it.

2D Boy advises that, when / if this happens, users should try power cycling their iPad - “hold down the power button for a few seconds and then slide the red slider. once the iPad is off, press the power button again to turn it back on.”

Of course, it is always recommended to reboot your device after installing an app, especially when it comes to graphically intensive ones, like most games.
