The ingenious World of Goo puzzle game created by 2D Boy recently making a ‘splash’ on the Apple iPad has now reached the iPhone install base via an update that made the app ‘universal’. For 3.5-inch screens, the game is a steal - just $0.99.

According to the 2D Boys behind one of the best video games in the puzzle genre, World of Goo HD version 1.3 now works on all iOS devices, including iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd generation, and iPod touch (4th generation.

[admark=1]“World of Goo HD is now Universal! Buy once, play on any of the following devices: iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd gen, iPod Touch 4th gen,” the developers say. The game also requires a minimum iOS version 3.2.

Now, for a bit of information about the game, just in case there’s anyone out there who hasn’t at least heard about it, let alone played it (if only in demo mode).

A physics-based puzzle game developed by independent game developers Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel (both former Electronic Arts employees), World of Goo made it to Mac OS X in 2008.

The game is built around the idea of creating large structures using goo. The key objective is to get a requisite number of goo balls to a pipe representing the exit. Gravity plays an important role in the game.

To give you an idea of just how much some have waited for this game to arrive on the smaller iOS devices, one of the first reviewers on iTunes (identified by his screen name as Rick W) wrote:

"I've been waiting for World of Goo to come out for what seems like forever!! This was one of the best games I've ever played on the PC and now it's on the iPod Touch/iPhone!! If you like physics based games you HAVE to buy this game!! A definite steal at 99 cents and well worth the soon-to-come $2.99 price!! This makes my night!"
