Robot firm Kuka challenged the world table tennis champion Timo Boll to a ping pong match and the resulting competition is really amazing.

The video embedded above shows the robot, named Agilus, demonstrating its skills with the table tennis racket against one of the best table tennis players of all times.

German ping pong star Timo Boll has won several world and European prizes during his career and has been voted German sportsman of the year several times, but he has never fought against a machine.

As the guys over at The Verge point out, the match between Timo Boll and the KUKA Robot appears to have been scripted, as the video is nothing more than a glorified commercial for the Agilus robot.

Robot maker KUKA has recently opened a factory in Shanghai and Timo was an ambassador for the firm. The video of the match between him and the merciful machine was made to celebrate the grand opening of the plant.

Last month, the company released a teaser for the match, which went viral with more than one million views. Now it has published a video of the real match, showing that Timo emerges victorious by a narrow 11-9 score.

The Argilus robot is normally used for picking and packing due to the dexterity of its arms.
