NEC Corporation has announced today that its recently-launched NEC Express5800 Scalable HA Server, based on Intel's Xeon processor, has managed to peak on November 6, 2008, the fastest performance on the TPC-E benchmark. NEC's Express5800/A1160 has set a new world record performance, reaching 1,400 tpsE (transactions-per-second in TPC-E), which breaks the previous record by a 12 percent greater speed, and also marks a 9 percent improvement in price performance at $1,190.24 per tpsE.

The NEC Express5800/A1160 includes the state-of-the-art NEC server technology. Thus, it features the Intel Xeon X7460 processor and the high speed interconnect HSI technology, as well as an up-to-4-box-capable building block structure. NEC's solution includes the features of a mission-critical system, pairing high scalability and high performance.

The recent, new-generation industry-standard benchmark TPC-E has been designed to be representative for modern OLTP systems. It simulates an entire brokerage firm, including customers, accounts and holdings, stock trading, and the monitoring of customers' accounts and the market. The new record was established by NEC's server while running the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and the SQL Server 2008, which functioned as a database server. The NEC Enterprise Modular Storage D3-10 had the role of a database storage system.

The world-record benchmark achieved by the NEC Express5800 Scalable HA Server can consolidate the industry-leading performance of the company. The server solution also features the reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) that are critical in the increasing demands of today's business applications. NEC Express5800 Scalable HA Server products, along with their advanced performance and rich RAS features, indicate NEC's commitment to providing mission-critical database system solutions.

The NEC Express5800 Scalable HA Server benchmark includes a 12 Intel Xeon processor X7460, running at 2.66GHz with 16MB of L3 cache. The 64 cores of the system are able to run 64 threads simultaneously. Paired with the 384GB of system memory, the raw power of the processor was able to establish the new world record performance.
