World's Largest Rabbit: 12.7 kg (28.22 lb)!

We have known that the largest rabbit breed is the German Gray Giant: over 23 lb (more than 10 kg). But the rabbit called Humphrey has topped the official world's record.

Humphrey is a French lop-eared rabbit 42 in (105 cm) long that
weighs 12.7 kg (28.22 lb). This means 1.4 kg (3lb) more than the world record holder Dancing Star, a rabbit belonging to the British Giant breed, weighing 25lb (11.3 kg). The most surprising fact is that the French Lop's not amongst the huge rabbit breeds: its average weight is just 10lb (4.4 kg).
"I just don't know how big he is going to get," said Humphrey's owner Colin Dunigan, 62, from Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire (Scotland).

The 18-month-old rabbit has not ceased its growth and could turn even larger, based on a diet of hay, carrots, asparagus and digestive biscuits.

"When I first got him I could hold him in the palms of both my hands. Every day he just kept getting bigger and bigger. I thought he would stop, but he hasn't so far," said Dunigan.

This bunny eats daily 3 carrots, half a broccoli, 2 asparagus tips, wholemeal bread and biscuits. And he is very demanding with the quality of its food.

"I have to be careful not to overfeed him, because he lives to eat. I bought him some own-brand digestive biscuits because they were a bit cheaper, but he turned his nose up," said Dunigan.

When Humphrey resulted to be too large for his 6 ft (1.8 m) long cage, he was left to roam freely in the four-bedroom detached house of his owner's house, and now his favorite activities are lying next to the fire and watching television.

"It doesn't matter where he is in the house, when he hears the theme of EastEnders he runs to get to the television. And if I try to leave the house without leaving the telly or the radio on he will stop me before I go," said Dunigan.

But Humphrey has an unofficial competitor: Amy, a Continental Giant from Worcester, weighing 15.9 kg (35 pounds) and measuring 4ft (1.2 m) in length. Still, as Humphrey is still growing, Amy may not be a match for him.
