14 DAY TRIAL // "Cotton Eye Joe, Cotton Eye Joe, where did you come from, where did you go?" Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Well, Rednex, the pop-ish band whose hit I have just mentioned, are for sale. It really felt quite uncanny reading the piece of news especially that this is the absolute first band to officially and publicly offer itself for sale!
Now, don't go thinking you buy the proper members... the sale refers to everything that is related to the Rednex name: the name/brand itself, the catalog, all the reserved rights and pretty much, as stated on the dedicated website, popbandforsale.com: "the buyer gets it all: the music, the trademark, the band, the tour, the record deals, the website, the record releases, the plans, the contacts, the contracts, the styling, the catalogue (all previous hits and recordings) and of course? ... the opportunities? ... the future..."
Rednex are due to release another album in September 2007 through Universal Music and this is also to become someone else's property, in the case of a sale. As stated of the sale website, the buyer will get 100% of the Rednex AB (equivalent to Ltd) and the business was "spotlessly run for 12 years, is debt free and carrying open books, which will be made fully available for the buyer. The company holds an administrative responsibility towards royalty holders on previous recordings. The running administrative costs average $ 4,000-5,000 in total per year."
So, if you think some of your wealthy friends could be interested in buying Rednex, don't hesitate! The price may be a bit high for me but I am sure you can find one of your friends willing to buy Rednex for $1.5 million! Besides the simple fact of being the first man to actually buy a band and partake in the first sale of this kind, the future buyer could actually make some nice money from music. I guess...
