Fujitsu announces new notebook HDDs with the introduction of the MHW2 BJ series. According to Fujitsu, these are the world's first 7,200 rpm 2.5" hard disk drives with a serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s interface. Moreover, these devices feature world's highest storage capacity of 160 GB for a 7,200 rpm 2.5" HDD, being targeted primarily at high-performance notebook PCs. The new series will be released worldwide at the end of May 2007.

Apart from the fact
that it achieves the world's leading storage capacity, MHW2160BJ is capable of data transmission speeds of up to 300 MB/s, which, in theory, should be the fastest rate in the industry. These speeds are attained with the aid of SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface, the expanded version of the original SATA 1.5 Gb/s, transfers reaching now speeds of up to 2.4 Gb/s (300 MB/s). The new 2.5" HDDs also feature best-in-class acoustic noise levels of 2.5 bels when idle, as well as low-power consumption, operating at only 2.3 watts when reading or writing data and under 2 watts in idle mode.

Notebook PCs have become more popular in the past several years, and thus, the demand for high reliability notebook PC HDDs that offer high-speed and high-capacity performance on par with those used in desktops has increased significantly. The new MHW2 BJ series is specifically designed to meet this demand with a platter rotation speed of 7,200 rpm, the highest of any serial ATA 2.5" HDD. These improved HDDs feature the same high quality standards that one would expect from Fujitsu, and they can be easily incorporated into high-end notebook PCs and flat panel desktop PCs, which are expected to gain popularity.

The new drives are RoHS compliant, meaning that they do not include hazardous substances, such as lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE).
