WorkLight Inc has announced that it is offering WorkLight Server support for Apple's iPhone. Aimed at business deployment, the software allows companies to do business securely using Apple's smartphone.

WorkLight Inc deals with server solutions that help businesses securely reach customers, channels, employees, and partners. Some of the places most frequented by users are iGoogle, Windows Live, desktop widgets, RSS readers, Facebook, even on Apple's iPhone. Through WorkLight, customers, employees and partners will get valuable information, such as account status, product availability, or updates about their latest transactions, knowing the platform on which they are carrying out these tasks is secure.

Thanks to this “critical business enabler,” companies, customers and their partners can use the iPhone to make purchases and track account and transaction activities using a secure platform, says WorkLight Inc. The solution is targeting a wide range of industries, including travel and hospitality, financial services, healthcare, utilities and more. The same WorkLight services that have been available for desktop and web use are now available for mobile phone, including Apple's popular iPhone.

“Businesses are looking for innovative ways to engage customers and partners in the places they frequent online, and extend the business reach beyond the portal,” said David Lavenda, VP Marketing and Product Strategy at WorkLight. “The highly popular Apple iPhone is a very attractive platform for businesses, and we are excited to expand our offerings to customers worldwide.”

According to WorkLight Inc, offerings include:

- new security capabilities that specifically address Web 2.0 security risks; - enhanced phishing prevention mechanisms; - secure provisioning; - personally-registered gadgets; - enhanced secure login process.

The company points out that such measures are becoming “crucial” in dealing with emergent security challenges, as the popularity of consumer tools for business is growing steadily.

Apple's iPhone is the newest device able to support the 14 Web 2.0 platforms WorkLight works with. Some of those include personalized homepages, social networks, RSS, social tagging and bookmarking, and more.

Support for additional mobile platforms is to be announced sometime in the future, says WorkLight Inc.
