Words You'll Learn To Love: Yellow Mineral Make-Up

- This summer, let the sun color your skin - literally

By: Monica Gaza, Life & Style Editor

This summer is all about sunny, bright primary colors – on your clothes and on your skin. In fact, two fabulous and innovative trends combine to turn the coming summer months into the "it" time for your skin – and it's all
down to these two emerging beauty concepts that aim to blend the trendy with the healthy. Without further ado, this summer's big (makeup) bang is the yellow mineral makeup. Of course, when you think yellow makeup, don't imagine the canary-colored trendy Diesel jacket you just purchased and are dying to try on. In fact, it's slightly tamer and a little more subtle, but never fear – we're here to let you know what it's all about.

"Bright primary colors are so in for clothes right now, but you should diffuse them for your makeup. Easter yellow is too full force, distracting and unflattering," says makeup artist Natalie DiStefano of the Rita Hazan Salon in NYC. The answer is to ditch your traditional makeup and replace it with this season's latest rage - mineral makeup. The latter is a hypoallergenic loose powder, which contains no perfumes, talc, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil or preservatives and nourishes the skin without giving it that heavy, mask-like texture. Bright mineral hues with shimmer to dilute the shade are the answer.

"Straight yellow powder can look chalky, so look for a cream shadow you can easily spread and control," DiStefano adds. Fortunately for all of us, mineral makeup has a lighter texture that will make your skin acquire a natural, translucent radiance, even when you apply more of it.

And we didn't even get to the best part yet. Apparently, mineral makeup is the number one option if you want to keep your skin safe from the number-one aging agent – the sun. And yes, summer does mean exposing your skin to a lot of it. Mineral makeup contains zinc oxide, which offers natural UVA-UVB protection. "[T]riple-milled minerals like titanium, gold, zinc, magnesium and aluminum naturally relax, refresh and rejuvenate the skin, and offer a genuine beauty solution in the comfort of home," adds Diane Ranger, creator of the Colorescience skincare range. In fact, Colorescience is a great way (if a bit pricey) to start your forays into the world of bright, lively and creamy-textured mineral makeup – so what are you waiting for?

On the ever-changing list of must-have summer looks, the yellow mineral eye-makeup is definitely at the top of the list.
