Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has released new updates to its open source blogging tool which allows users to manage their blogs right from the mobile phone. The BlackBerry variant includes some major improvements for devices running at least version 5.0 of RIM's operating system, while the Symbian beta has received several small tweaks.

The main change of the 1.4.3 release for BlackBerry is an enhanced geotagging option which gives users more control over choosing their location.

The feature allows users to assign a location on Earth to their blog posts.

The first and most convenient method for doing this is using the handset's embedded GPS receiver to detect the geographic coordinates.

In case a GPS receiver is not present, users can choose to enter the desired address manually or import it from the mobile phone's contacts list.

Moreover, for further convenience, users can select their current location as easily as clicking on a point from the map.

WordPress keeps a list of previously used locations (accessible from  the "recently selected" option), so users don't have to repeatedly type their address every time they want to geotag their posts.

Besides the aforementioned changes, the new version also contains some preview-related improvements, as well as minor bug fixes.

Still in beta stage, the 0.8.2 build for Symbian brings several adjustments which take the application a step closer to the stable release.

Users will notice that WordPress now loads faster on S60 phones, plus a new splash screen presented at startup.

Another important change is security-related, dealing with a password editor issue which caused the password to be shown in plain sight instead of properly masking it.

In addition to these changes, the latest version also fixes various rendering and user experience issues.
