WordPress, the team behind the popular blogging software has just announced a major update of their Android application. WordPress 2.0 is now out and available for download in the Android Market.

According to the developers, the new version of WordPress is packed with new features to make users’ experience even smoother. In addition, the whole application has been redesigned and more features have been added to make it more user-friendly.

The open-source project seems to be developing nicely especially that users can contribute to future releases of the application and make interesting additions to final version of WordPress.

One of these important additions is the new Action Bar, which allows users to switch blogs, refresh content or display the Dashboard from anywhere in the application.

There’s also the Dashboard, which is the first thing displayed as soon as WordPress is opened. It provides users quick access to most common commands of the application, including create new posts and view stats.

The developers also introduced a new ribbon that allows users to see how many unapproved comments they have in the moderation queue at any given time.

Quick Photo and Video buttons have been added as well to make it easier for users to post media content inside their WordPress blogs.

Another interesting change is the formatting toolbar that was added to the post editor, above the keyboard. It allows users to edit texts and add links much easier.

It is also worth mentioning that WordPress 2.0 now features tablet support. The application even supports newer 7-inchers, such as the Kindle Fire.

Other changes available with WordPress 2.0 include: Stats chart improvements, BackGround post uploading, WordPress.com read feature improvements, Post Status displayed in post list, Reliability improvements, and more.

WordPress 2.0 for Android is now available as a free download from Softpedia and is fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up, including tablets.
