You probably never thought Guillermo del Toro would ever have anything in common with Michael Bay, but that’s before he started working on what he calls his biggest project ever, “Pacific Rim,” which pits manned robots against giant aliens / sea monsters.

He’s not lying when he says it’s his biggest project so far, just check out the brand new trailer above for confirmation.

This is the trailer that was released at WonderCon. It offers more details on the backstory, including how man created the giant robots to protect the Earth, which was being threatened by the giant aliens.

It also shows how man controls them, while offering a better look at the monsters as well.

“Pacific Rim” stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke, and Diego Klattenhoff, and arrives in theaters in 3D and IMAX this July.
