New survey reveals that women can, and do, use fashion as their best ally in the fight for a promotion

It could be that the image of that particular type of “secretary” that we get to see in movies is not that far-fetched after all, a new study has revealed. Not only are women willing to dress skimpily in order to get a promotion or a bonus, but one third of them are already doing it – with awesome results, we might as well add, since they admit to getting stuff they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.

Undertaken by fashion forum site TheRagTrader, the poll included approximately 3,000 employees, both male and female, and revealed that fashion is of utmost priority for the latter, even at the workplace, where it is believed it should come in second. However, the surprising result of the survey was that it showed just to what extent some women are willing to take fashion to get what they want.

Twenty-seven percent of the female respondents admitted they would happily wear what could be deemed a “risqué” outfit to get a promotion, a bonus or some sort of attention from a direct superior. One in twenty women came clean and said that they were already doing it on a regular basis with the best results, because, they believe, it helped them be noticed when their professional achievements could not speak loud enough of them.

Of the same 3,000 respondents, 78 percent of the women stated that they believed their dress code at the workplace heavily influenced their professional performance and evolution, wherefrom dressing smartly or unlike other female employees can be seen as the essential ace up the sleeve. Speaking of dressing smartly, 48 percent of the women said that it helped them feel more in control, while 61 percent were of the opinion that it made their colleagues respect them more.

“The research proves that what you wear to work can really affect your success rate. This relates to both accomplishing more during 9-5 and even climbing the career ladder quicker too. Even when working from home, it’s incredible how clothing can influence your productivity. If your clothing is too relaxed in style it’s harder to get into work mode and all too easy to waste the day.” a spokesperson for TheRagTrader told the Daily Mail.
